University Chophouse in Greenville, NC
Everyone needs a little give-and-take, the New York Times - the Daily News…
University Chophouse
We sampled 2007’s best addition to Greenville, NC dining: The University Chophouse in Lynncroft Shopping Center (off Evans St, a stand-alone building), owned by one of the previous forces behind Stacattos — Ray Myers.
To quote the Greenville Reflector (last May 2007)
The traditional chophouse menu features prime cuts of steak, chops and seafood. Myers plans to add to that menu a choice of six types of salads; a selection of a la carte family-style side dishes like creamed spinach, onion rings, sweet potato casserole and potatoes au gratin; and Cajun fare.
The restaurant also will be a fusion of decors, combining the traditional “library style” of a chophouse with a Charleston plantation-style sunroom ambience. The tables will be covered with linen cloths, and the white walls will be adorned with new and vintage black-and-white photographs of East Carolina University. Myers also plans to incorporate a “Hall of Fame” featuring famous folks who have lived in Greenville.
I had a fabulous slice of prime rib. About an inch thick, melt in your mouth tender, cooked to perfection. Appetizers? Some great chicken shiskabobs. Delicious salad with fresh mushrooms, bacon, a hard-boiled egg, baby spinach… nice!
Service was courteous, responsive, and pleasant. Food arrived at the right moment for each course. Even the iced tea was superb. (the coffee wasn’t good, but hey… they’re forgiven)
Prime rib $20 with amazing salad
blackened mahi mahi with pineapple salsa and Jasmine rice $22 (? I think) with delicious Caesar salad
appetizer $8
creme brulee desert $6
gratuity 20%, yup — it was that good. And we brought home 2 containers, we couldn’t eat all of the fish or prime rib…
