DWOW and Washington
First off and foremost — A heartfelt and sincere round of applause and some loudly sung congratulatory praise to Catherine Glover for her recent appointment to head up our local Chamber of Commerce. She is a hard-working sincere young woman who will do our area proud, as they say. Can’t think of a better person for the job. And to the DWOW executive committee folks? Ross Hamory is the most over-qualified interim president we could ever have. And what a remarkably fortunate thing for us, eh? It is my fervent wish that he stay in the post and handle our fair town with as much finesse and skill as he exhibited with his amazing work for our FAA.
I met the Hamorys during Hurricane Isabel when they emailed my blog to find out the condition of their sailboat which was moored downtown. Over a series of conversations, Ross revealed their purchase of the Bragaw house. For those of us who knew Miz Bragaw, it is a real God-send to have the house restored and loved by its occupants. Just a couple doors down from my sister Ann and her husband, Doug Cutler, the Main St. block buffeted by Episcopalians on one end and Baptists on the other is surely one of Washington’s prettiest and strangest. And Erma Lee’s house? Looks like a spiffy new bit of paint going up. Perhaps the work on the old funeral home slash residence now apartments will also make us proud? Anyone ever been downstairs in that basement? Talk about a great place for a haunted house! All year round!
Stay tuned…
good luck Catherine. We know you can do great things with the Washington-Beaufort County Chamber of Commerce. All you have to be is responsive, to acknowledge new members (something Bo Lewis never did) and you’re sure to be successful.
