Okay, put all the hurricane cards on the table already. All I see are a couple aces, a fizzed out flush, and the deuces are wild off the coast of Africa. Frances is licking central VA, we got zilch — a few really nice clouds and a paltry scattered shower. No, wait, I stand [...]
And, so it begins…
another week o’waiting. This time for Frances. Too bad the weather moguls don’t know how to spell it correctly. We all know it’s spelled Francis. Like our Miss Francis — the Scottie — the dog who licks toads and found a nice big ol’ juicy toad right where the A/C drips, the [...]
We’d like to thank the Academy for this award.
A healthy, beautiful 6 lb, 12 oz. grandson. Oliver Zane, you are the light of our lives.
Or as his Great-Grandmother said, “This is the most extraordinary event of my entire life.”
The only significant weather fact of the day would be:
The probably-hurricane forming off the coast of Africa this week will be named Francis.
LinusAndMaggie are more hurricane-like in their demeanor. Francis is a bit more sedate — unless you have a squeaky toy in your hand.
The Pamlico River is out — as in sucked into the tidal abyss caused by the hurricanes. It’ll fill back up tomorrow. The Tar River is supposed to be around 17′ above normal?? Something like that, do not quote me. All I know is the Greenville Commons is due to have water in it.
Went [...]

Bonnie Prince Charley is not our friend… Amtrak’s canceled, Tamps’s hunkering down… we’re threatened with flooding. Life on the River of Strange might just require a rowboat soon. Tornadoes in eastern NC last night — reports of one in Washington County and one near Terra Ceia that might have resulted in a fatality of a [...]
According to the Weather Channel —
Charley is causing a ruckus.
That’s the weather for you. Why don’t hurricanes have names worthy of their personality? Charley? Charley??? Wasn’t that a perfume in the 70s? And then again… Stephanie Abrams, enjoying the sunshine on St. George Island, said, “Bonnie was living up to its name.” What [...]

Time will tell if it comes up the coast to us. Good luck in Florida.
According to T-Man, our local bookie, odds are running 24 to 1 in favor of Skippy, on local ABC affiliate, being the first to utter the words “hunker down” in relation to the current Bonnie Prince Charley situation. Those betting against Skippy put their money on Phillip (the temp-errrrr-ahhhhh-tchure man). Obviously those in Alabama [...]

In Washington NC it’s Renter Beware these days. Since (to my knowledge) there is no code except electrical for rental property, people renting houses in the areas of Washington flooded out by Floyd, Dennis, Bonnie, Fran (pick one) have no way of knowing what kind of mildew or mold exists under and in the walls/floors [...]
Well, as luck would have it — there’s a storm brewing in our midst. Bonnie’s high stepping it alone in the Gulf, waiting for her partner Charley to arrive so they can foxtrot up the eastern coastline. Let us hope this is just a quick spin around the Atlantic dance floor. Amtrak’s Silver Service train [...]
Washington NC historic district regulations aren’t for everyone.
Interesting.
COUPLE ALLEGES RELIGIOUS SLURS
Jonathan Clayborne, Daily News, 8/31/04
http://www.wdnweb.com/articles/2004/08/31/news/news03.txt
A former Beaufort County commissioner candidate and her husband said
alleged religious slurs could have hurt them and their family during the
campaign.
Republican Sonya Shamseldin and her husband, Mo Shamseldin, who noted he is
an unaffiliated voter, said certain Republicans spread rumors about the
couple’s religious affiliations during the campaign preceding the [...]

They evacuated poor ol’ Ocracoke Island last week, brought all the tourists here to Washington in school buses loaded down with surfboards and bicycles. The powerboat races are this weekend and hotel/motel rooms? Completely booked. What a bitch to end up in Washington, NC for the ass-end of your vacation instead of the beautiful beaches [...]
